Professional Agenda

Professional issues are central to the aims of the College, by supporting members in their individual professional roles and aspirations, and, as the largest professional membership body for chaplains in the United Kingdom, representing chaplaincy in the wider context to employers and others.

Most of this work relates to chaplains working in the National Health Service, including England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, but the wider membership includes those working in hospices and the voluntary and private sectors. Those with an interest in UK health care chaplaincy may also join CHCC, whether or not they are based in the UK.

In addition to exploring professional issues at national, regional and local meetings and events, the College maintains close contact with employers, denominational and faith community groups. Moves of chaplaincy towards registration as a health care profession are being pursued by the College in conjunction with the two other main chaplaincy professional bodies — the Association of Hospice and Palliative Care Chaplains (AHPCC) and the Scottish Association of Chaplains in Healthcare (SACH). These three bodies are also sponsors of the Chaplaincy Academic and Accreditation Board (CAAB-UK) www.caabweb.org.uk
