SR DORA REMEMBERED
There will be a special service to remember the life of Dorothy Wyndlow Pattison (Sr Dora) and give thanks for all who work in healthcare today.

Please come and join us on Sunday 17 January 2010 at 11:00 am at The Crossing at St Paul‘s, Walsall.  Sr Frances Dominica from Helen House Hospice will be the guest preacher.  Flowers will be laid at Sr Dora‘s statue in the town centre afterwards.

A WARM WELCOME TO:
Reverend Denis Sunley, Assistant Chaplain
Denis joined us in June from St Thomas‘ Church, Huntington, Cannock, where he remains as Ordained Local Minister. He is working at the hospital 3 days per week. In a previous life, Denis was Sports Reporter with the Express & Star and is a keen golfer.

Mrs Jamila Madari, Muslim Faith Representative
Jamila joined us in July, with special responsibility for female Muslim patients. She attends Masji-al-Farouq Mosque in Palfrey, Walsall, where her husband is an Imam. Jamila has recently graduated with a Degree in English from Birmingham City University. She is currently studying towards a Post Graduate Certificate in Education at primary level. Jamila is with us for 3½ hours each week.

Mrs Parkash Sohal, Sikh Faith Representative
Parkash joined us in July. She is also with us for 3½ hours each week and volunteers for several other hospitals in the area, promoting chaplaincy within the Sikh Community. On 30 October, Parkash was presented with an award from the British Asian Hafta in recognition of her community work. When she is not undertaking her various chaplaincy roles, Parkash enjoys looking after her grandchildren.

Introduction

As Chaplains and Faith Representatives we are here to support you in your time of need. We are available to everyone in our hospital community - patients, carers and visitors, and members of staff. We represent various faith traditions but are here for you whether you are a person of faith or not.

We are supported by volunteers, and represent the following faiths:

  • Christian (Church of England, Free Church, Roman Catholic)
  • Muslim
  • Sikh
  • Hindu

We are there to share your concerns or celebrate your joys, and pray with you if you wish. We can visit you on your ward or unit. We can also arrange for you to attend a service or prayers in our hospital Chapel and Prayer Room.

Nursing staff can supply you with Holy Books or Prayer Mats as these are available on each ward.
